Much Awaited films but finally flopped

There were many awaited films in the year 2009. Although some films did manage to be successful, some directors couldn’t succeed at the box office. Due to the multiplex strike, there were a lot of films that were accumulated. There were two to three releases every week. This could have been one of the reasons for some of the films to be unsuccessful at the box office.

One of the biggest flops of 2009 is ‘What’s Your Raashee?’ ‘What’s Your Raashee?’ was a much awaited film however it could not do well at the box office because of its length. The film was three and a half hour long and it had 12 songs. Movie goers today avoid lengthy films because all of us today are short of time. Today’s audience wants maximum entertainment in minimum time. Moreover, the story became dull and boring and repetitive after the initial hour. Even though this was the first time that any character has ever played 12 roles in a film, the character were not established properly because how much can you explore 12 characters even in three and half hours.

Another film which was a super duper flop was Aladin. This film had invested nearly 70 crores but it could hardly recover anything. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, this film invested a lot on special effects but this film’s target audience was not clear. Also, the story of the film wasn’t appealing enough to hold audiences attention. Such big budget films going flop are a big hit to the film industry.

Upcoming films

Due to the multiplex-producer strike, there are two to three films releasing every Friday. And the upcoming Fridays as well, there are many interesting films lined up. One of them is London Dreams directed by Vipul Shah. This film was earlier suppose to be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi but now it is Mr. Shah who has changed the script completely and made London Dreams. However, Vipul Shah has not signed his favorite hero Akshay Kumar in the same. This time it is Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan.

Another film that has spent a lot on special effects and now awaits its fate on Friday 30th Oct is Aladin that stars none other than Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Ritesh Deshmukh. Actress Jacqueline Fernandes will also make her debut in this film. This film is directed by Sujoy Ghosh whose first film Jhankar Beats was a big hit however, his second film Home Delivery was a disaster at the box office. The director has left no stone unturned to make this film and hopefully all the hard work will pay off at the box office.

And the next on the list whose songs are always a hit amongst the crowd is Emraan Hashmi’s Tum Mile. Tum Mile is a film that is based on Mumbai floods and is directed by Kunal Deshmukh whose previous film Jannat was a huge success. Quintessentially, ‘Tum Mile’ is a love story revolving around Emraan and Soha Ali Khan set against the backdrop of Mumbai floods.

Here is one film whose sleek trendy promos have been the talk of the town and that is Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani featuring Ranbir and Katrina together. A lot of people are excited about this romantic comedy and a lot of expectations are set on Rajkumar Santoshi whose previous film Halla Bol was a flop.

One film that is hot on the list is Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail. ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Page 3’, ‘Corporate’, ‘Traffic Signal’ and ‘Fashion’ – all these films have been a huge hit amongst they crowd especially because of the neorealist element in these films. And one more that we add to this list is Jail featuring Neil Nitin Mukesh. So waiting for these films to hit the box office after which we will feature the reviews for the same.

Aladin

Aladin promises to be a fun-filled family entertainer. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the movie takes its inspiration from classic tale of ‘Aladin and The Magic Lamp’. Movie is more in the genre of fantasy adventure. Aladin has been produced by Eros International and Boundscript Production and stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez. Seeing the star cast and a novel theme, movie seems very promising.

The plot revolves around Aladin Chatterjee played by Riteish Deshmukh who is a resident of the city of Khwaish. Aladin is an orphan who has been often bullied by notorious Kasim and his gang. But his life never remains the same once Jasmine (Jacqueline Fernandez) gives him a magic lamp. The lamp has indomitable genie Genius played by superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Movie also has Sanjay Dutt in the role of ex-genie Ringmaster who is hunting Aladin. Hereon, movie revolves around the suspense of destiny of Aladin and his past secret carried by Genius.

The movie Aladin is much talked about because of its star studded cast and crew. Music of the film has been composed by hit pair of Vishal-Shekhar and in one word they have managed to produce a contemporary album. Songs are energetic and racy and i must say composers have gone beyond their signature beats and tunes. The album has total six songs and two remixes. The list opens up with ‘Genie rap’ where Amitabh himself has crooned along with Anushka Manchanda. A normal song, it seems to be a situational one. DJ Suketu has made the remixed version of ‘Genie Rap’ and it is appealing because of its fast beats.

‘Tak dhina din’ is the title track and voice has been rendered by Shankar Mahadevan and Shaan. A well composed song, this is full of energy. Next entertaining number is ‘O re saawariya’ that has an interesting combination of rustic and classic influences. The remixed version of this song is quite likeable.

‘You may be’ is a love ballad sung by composers Vishal and Shekhar. ‘Bachke o bachke’ is another upbeat umber in the album that is sire to grow on you as you listen for few times. The last number ‘Giri giri’ has been sung by Sanjay Dutt and it is just a normal number. Overall, the album ‘Aladin’ will have its good days in the city for certain duration.
