Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani

After the success of Wake up Sid, Ranbir starrer Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is one of the most awaited films of this year. This romantic comedy has already impressed the audience with its new stylish promos. Moreover, Ranbir and Katrina make a great pair.

This movie has a simple storyline. Prem has one motto in life which is to be happy and make everyone around him happy. On the other hand Jennifer/Jenny played by Katrina Kaif longs to love and be loved in returned. Thus both of them seem to lead simple lives with their simple goals. But the twist comes in when these supposedly simple goals turn into disasters for Prem and others. Later, due to a mistaken identity, Prem kidnaps Jenny and tries to pull a fast one over her father. However jenny has indifferent and uncaring parents. And it was love for Jenny that made Prem an evolved person. He begins to work hard to make money.

Later Prem falls so much in love with Jenny that he does everything to make Jenny happy. Jenny on the other hand was so much in love with the idea of being in love that she was blinded by the reality that her true love was Prem. This movie is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi who is directing a romantic comedy after a long time.

The music of the movie is given by Pritam and the lyrics are given by Irshad Kamil and Ashish Pandit. The songs of this film have been extremely popular especially Tu Jaane Na sung by Atif Aslam and Tera Hone Laga Hoon by Atif Aslam, Alisha Chinoy. Other songs like Prem Ki Naiyya, Main Tera Dhadkan Teri and Oh my God have also been liked by many.

Fruit And Nut Review

Directed by ace comedian Kunal Vijaykar, Fruit And Nut boasted of a talented star cast but unfortunately it leaves a lot to be desired. Released this Friday, movie stars Cyrus Broacha, Boman Irani, Dia Mirza and Mahesh Manjrekar.  The biggest drawback of this movie is it is supposed to be an out and out comedy and yet it makes you laugh only intermittently. No doubt, star cast is talented but they definitely needed a strong story line to act and perform but that’s the tragedy of this comedy. Comedy is mostly senseless and all the absurd gimmicks shown in the movie are much better avoided that accepted. This movie was supposed to be first full-fledged comedy movie of Dia Mirza who is trying to stage a comeback but unfortunately for her, it has failed miserably.

The movie revolves around Jolly Maker (Cyrus) who though is a simpleton and hard working is looking for success, money, fame and love. He loves to create disastrous scenarios and is quite a goofy character. He works for a corrupt builder. Then one day, his sexy and beautiful colleague Monica gets mysteriously kidnapped and thereafter it becomes the responsibility of Jolly to find Monica amidst all the goof-ups. That’s what the rest of the movie is all about.

Debutant director Kunal Vijaykar tries really hard but then he needs the support of a strong script and screenplay. Some of the jokes and situations are funny but they tend to get repetitive and lose shine. Most of the comic situations are not funny enough. Cyrus tries hard to save the movie but to no avail. All in all, star cast has performed reasonably well but it’s the script that acts as a letdown.

All The Best – Movie Review

This Diwali saw release of three big movies; All The Best, Blue and Mr and Mrs Khanna. Needless to say, bollywood had it as good as it gets. Movie goers had plenty of choices considering the different genres of these three movies. The first one was a comic caper whereas Blue was an outright action-thriller whereas Mr and Mrs Khanna was a romantic drama. Talking about All The Best, movie has done a wonderful business. The Golammal team returned with this movie and they have continued their laugh riot. Ajay Devgan surely seems to have this fine knack of producing hit comic movies. I mean, here is one star who is hardly ever in limelight except when his movie is about to be released and yet he delivers the stuff whenever needed.

People all across India seems to have enjoyed this movie immensely. Directed by Rohit Shetty, movie has lived up to its hype and has managed to garner good reviews across all the TV channels and Newspapers. Movie stars, Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Bashu and Mughda Godse. Sanjay Dutt looks to have enjoyed his role a lot as can be sen from his total natural performance in the movie. Ajay Devgan, as usual has always been a performer. Support casts like Atul Parchure, Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra have done commendable job.

The movie is basically a situational comedy and a wonderful laugh riot all the way. Music is peppy and in sync with plot of the movie and background score keeps up well with the comedy. Those looking for dialogues and actions will also relish this Diwali Dhamaka. Now we are wondering whats next; Golmaal 3 or All The Best 2?

Kurbaan

Featuring the real life couple, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Kurbaan is a film set against the backdrop of global terrorism which is directed by Rensil D’Silva and produced by Karan Johar. The film also features Vivek Oberoi who is a journalist and Dia Mirza who is a reporter.

Avantika Ahuja (Kareena Kapoor) lives in the US but because her father has a cardiac arrest she returns to Delhi where she meets Ehsaan (Saif Ali Khan), a Delhi University Professor. They fall in love, get married and move to the US.

After moving there, Avantika realizes that Ehsaan is a terrorist who married her only to cover his identity. Avantika finds out that Ehsaan plans to hijack a flight and one of the passengers on that flight is a journalist (played by Vivek Oberoi). Kurbaan becomes an important film for Kareena Kapoor because after Main aur Mrs Khanna’s poor box office collection, she needs a hit to maintain her position which this film can provide her. Saif also for a change would be seen in a different avatar and not playing his usual confused but cute kind of character.

This movie is shot in Philadelphia and in Brooklyn. Kurbaan has some refreshing sound tracks. The music is given by Salim – Sulaiman. I love all the songs of the film which are Shukran Allah sung by Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Salim Merchant, Dua by Sukhwinder Singh, Kailash Kher, Marianne D’Cruz Aiman , Ali Maula by Salim Merchant, Rasiya by Shruti Pathak, Kurbaan Hua by Vishal Dadlani and the remixes as well.

Diwali Bonanza

This Diwali offered a triple bonanza to the movie goers. Not one but three big budgeted movies with top stars were released. The movies that were released All The Best, Blue and Main Aur Mrs Khanna had top notch stars of the bollywood. Millions were riding on the success of these movies. The movies were also an indicator of success starved bollywood this year. 2009 has relatively been a cold affair for bollywood business but thankfully Blue and All The Best managed to open on bumper notes. It is being said that combined collections of these two movies are now the best ever in the history of Bollywood. That is something to cheer for! Those stats also put at rest the rumours of economic recovery sustainability. According to trade sources, Blue has netted no less than 33 crores in the first week and All The Best has also managed to garner net 25 crores. However, Main Aur Mrs Khanna did not get rave reviews and opened on poor collections of mere 8 crores. All in all, bollywood netted 65 crores in Diwali week.

The earlier held record of highest grossing Diwali week was by Golmaal Returns and Fashion that had garnerd 60 crores. But i must point out that earlier collection was achieved on a 9 days extended run as both the films had released on Wednesday. That definitely makes it a cheerful reason for bollywood to celebrate this festive season. All The Best has continued its winning runs in following week whereas Blue has slightly been subsided. However it must be noted that collections would have been much higher had both films been released separately. But what has worked in their favour is subsequent releases like Fruit And Nut and Bal Ganesha proved to be dud at the box office. They have one more week to enjoy before London Dreams and Aladin releases.

London Dreams

Now everyone is awaiting the upcoming movie London dreams that stars actors Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Asin. The film is directed by noted filmmaker Vipul Shah and the music is given by famous music composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Since the movie is about a band the songs are rock music inspired so that they can match the story of the film. Songs of the movie which have featured recently are “Khanabadosh” which is my favorite as well.

The story of this film is about two childhood friends Arjun (Ajay Devgan) and Mannu (Salman Khan). Both of them have some connection through a music lineage in their family. Arjun has always dreamt of being a stage performer as he wanted to fulfill his grandfather’s ambition while on the other hand, Mannu has little interest in making it big and is happy being a simpleton.

Thus we have Arjun on one side who is diligently pursuing his dream and on the other we have Mannu who is happy with the way he is be trying to make his livelihood by playing as a wedding band performer at the village back in India. Arjun leaves his uncle and finally makes it to London which he feels is the place which will help him to realize his goals.

Arjun creates a band with two brothers who have duped their relatives in Pakistan to travel to London in pursuit of their musical aspirations. The band also consists of Priya (Asin), who is a music enthusiast from a conservative South Indian family. Mannu is however shown at this stage to. Now Arjun invites Mannu to London to be a part of the band.

When Mannu arrives he is totally a charmer and a entertainer. He thus becomes popular with the audience with his unique style of performing. Now Arjun starts feeling envious of Mannu. Even Priya starts sensing that she is developing a soft corner for Mannu. Now when the band travels across Paris, Rome and Amsterdam, Arjun deceives Mannu in case of drugs. Later the band heads to London to perform in front of a huge audience, the viewer is told that Arjun’s grandfather had failed before a similar audience. Mannu thus comes to senses and supports his childhood mate Arjun.

Blue – Movie Review

Blue was one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Movie had promised a lot because of its huge star cast and splendid actions never seen before on the Indian screens. The budget of the movie was said to be extremely extravagant. Blue has been extensively shot in heavenly waters of Bahamas and producers have left no stone unturned in making those underwater sequences memorable. But somewhere movie fails to deliver the final punch. Despite all the hype and tons of expectations, few things about the movie seem quite out of the place.

Dialogues leave a lot to be desired and the final twist was nothing less than a childish gimmick. A movie needs to have some substance to back its style quotient. The movie has definitely opened up on good footfalls but it is a matter of speculation how long it will be able to sustain interest of the people. The movie stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Jayed Khan and Lara Dutta. Akshay has got a new goatee for the movie and has definitely the lead role of the movie. Lara looks stunning in bikini and underwater scenes whereas Sanjay Dutt seems to have some issues with weight.

The movie is about treasure hunt buried deep within the ocean. The movie also has a song by Kylie Minogue and it has been quite a hit amongst the people. Songs have been composed by Maestro A R Rehman and needless to say, you are sure to love them. Just check any song and you are bound to love it. The background score and stunts shown in the movie are definitely worth a watch.

Top Actresses of recent times

It is indeed difficult to maintain a top position in Bollywood especially when you have to deliver a series of hits to be there on top. However, some actresses of the recent times has proved with their splendid and superior acting skills that they can not just reach but rule at the top position.

The top position today is ruled mainly by four actresses namely Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. Till now, Katrina has starred in more than fourteen films and with films like Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and De Dana Dan in her kitty, she is surely someone who is giving a tough time to other actresses. For Katrina this year, New York was a big hit and her forthcoming films too seem to be quite promising.

Another hit actress is Deepika Padukone especially after a huge success of Love Aaj Kal. This movie has proved to be a turning point for Deepika’s career. Her film ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ was a big flop but Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Love Aaj Kal’ has proved that Deepika can pull off a role like that in her film Love Aaj Kal.

Kareena Kapoor too has some really good projects in her kitty that makes her one of the most envied actresses in Bollywood. ‘Kurbaan’ and ‘3 Idiots’ are the most awaited movies in the recent times and Kareena has been working with Saif and Aamir respectively. Kareena’s recent film Kambakkht Ishq also did good business at the box office.

Priyanka Chopra’s film ‘What’s Your Raashee’ may not have been a hit at the box office but her acting skills were highly appreciated in the film. Also, Kaminey was a huge success for Priyanka which helped her to maintain her top position. Now we wait for Priyanka’s next film Pyaar Impossible with Uday Chopra and Dino Morea, directed by Jugal Hansraj.

Main Aur Mrs Khanna – Movie Review

The third big release of the Diwali was Main Aur Mrs Khanna starring Salman Khan. The movie had all the potential to be an intense and complicated love story but somehwre it lost its focus. Script was below par and that explains why it was the poorest performer amongst the three releases of the Diwali. Movie could not cash on Salman’s recent success Wanted. Other stars of the movie were Kareena and Sohail Khan. The theme of the movie was quite sensitive and it could have been a memorable experience had there been more focus on tight script and better screenplay. But then, what if situation is not of much use once the damage has been done.

The story line revolves around marital conflicts between Mr and Mrs Khanna played by Salman and Kareena respectively. They go against their families wishes and tie the nuptial knot and move to Melbourne. But soon they start to face financial issues and Salman leaves for Singapore whereas Kareena is left waiting at Melbourne airport. She is devastated but joins a job at the airport itself where she befriends Sohail khan and thats where the real twist in the story starts.

Sohail was extremely helpful to her and in the process loses his heart to her whereas Kareena does not see him as anything more than a friend. In the meantime, Salman returns with a fat valet and thereafter it’s a emotional rollercoaster ride for all the three lead characters. Movie leaves you with certain questions and somewhere few links are missing. Music has been given by Salman’s favourite Sajod-Wajid and its pretty okay.

Most awaited movies coming up

One of the most awaited films of 2009 is Kareena and Saif Ali Khan’s Kurbaan. This movie is directed by Rensil D’Silva of ‘Rang De Basanti’ fame. ‘Kurbaan’ is quintessentially a love story based on the backdrop of global terrorism.

Apart from Kurbaan, it is Director Priyadarshan’s De Dana Dan that features a hit combo of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal. Priyadarshan is known for his expertise in the comedy genre and this time too, he is expected to tickle audience’s funny bone.

After ‘Cheeni Kum’ and its brilliant narration, Balki’s upcoming film ‘Paa’ features not just – Amitabh Bachchan but son Abhishek too and this time it is Abhishek who fathers Amitabh. This seems to be a very interesting film and the most awaited as well.

And one more on the list is Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year’ featuring none other than Ranbir Kapoor. This film is directed by Shimit Amin who has a track record of two hits namely ‘Ab Tak 56’ and ‘Chak De India’ and with this film too, where he has given Ranbir a completely new look, a lot is expected out of him.

So these are some of the upcoming films in November and December. Do watch them and post your feedback.
